Political Career

In 2000, he was appointed Union Secretary of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for T.Palur, a position he continues to hold. His leadership qualities were soon recognized when he contested the Local Body elections (India) in 2001 and was elected as a Councillor representing the Edanganni and Chindamani wards.

Demonstrating his commitment to local issues, Kannan led a notable protest against the transfer of water from the Kollidam River to Chennai for the Veeranam Lake project. His efforts, supported by local MLAs and ward members, earned widespread appreciation and strengthened his community support.

In 2006, he successfully contested the Local Body Election from the Udayanatham ward and served as the Chairman of the T.Palur Panchayat Union from 2006 to 2011. Throughout his tenure, he implemented various initiatives that resonated with the local population, solidifying his reputation as an effective leader.

Kannan has been an active participant in DMK-organized protests and played a pivotal role in election campaigns. Recognizing his dedication and influence, the DMK nominated Kannan as its candidate for the 2021 Member of the Legislative Assembly Election in the Jayankondam Assembly constituency. After a 20-year hiatus, the party regained the constituency, previously represented by his father, K. C. Ganesan. Kannan's victory in the election marked a significant continuation of his family's political legacy.
