Jeffrey Owen Katz is an American scientist, author, and amateur radio operator.[1]

Katz studied at Stony Brook University.[2]

Career

In 1989, Katz founded Scientific Consultant Services, Inc.,[3] which provides data handling solutions. Together with Donna L. McCormick, he co-authored three books for McGraw-Hill.[4][5][6]

Katz worked with the Custer Institute,[7] serving on its Board of Directors, serving as Observatory Director from 2004 to 2012, and as the Research Chair from 2006 to 2012.[8] Katz founded the Custer Institute's "Education Through Research" Program[9] Additionally, he wrote a monthly astronomy column for Long Island Pulse magazine.[10] He secured grants for the institute's research and educational initiatives[11][12] and developed specialized hardware and software, including for optics,[13] and a de-convolution algorithm for image enhancement.[14] Katz received a citation from the New York State Assembly recognizing his contributions.[15] He is currently on the advisory board of Hampton's Observatory, Inc.[16] Since his teenage years, he has been an amateur radio operator for the callsign AC2BQ licensed to Selden, NY. [17]
