Jalalabad (Bengali: জালালাবাদ থানা) is a administrative thana linked with the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) and it is located in Sylhet, Bangladesh.[1][2]
History
In 12 August 2011, Jalalabad Thana was formed.[1]
In 2015, it was reported that the OC (Officer-in-charge) of Jalalabad Police Station, Alamgir Hossain, was suspended by higher authorities and transferred to Rangpur Range due to negligence in achieving justice and arresting perpetrators who were involved in murder and assault of a boy, Samiul Alam Rajon in Sylhet.[3]
Geography
Jalalabad Thana borders Companiganj and Gowainghat upazilas in the north, Kotwali Model Thana, Sylhet and Moglabazar Thana in the south, Chhatak, Bishwanath upazilas in the west, Bimanbandar Thana and Gowainghat upazila in the east, Jalalabad covers 133.36 kilometers in area.[1]
Demographics
According to the 2001 Census of Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, Jalalabad Thana has a population of 107,977 and males constituted 50.97% of the population (55,046), females constituted 49.03% (52,931) and Jalalabad has a literacy rate of 45.21% and there are 102,252 Muslims, 5,646 Hindus and 79 believers of other faiths or unknown.[1]
