Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences (Croatian: Institut društvenih znanosti Ivo Pilar) is a public research institute for social sciences in Zagreb, Croatia. It was established in 1991 by the decree of the University of Zagreb Assembly. Institute is named after Croatian historian Ivo Pilar.

As of 2024, Institute employs 89 scientists, mostly sociologists, psychologists, historians and demographers.[1]

History

It was founded on November 26, 1991, by the decree of University of Zagreb Assembly as the Institute for applied social sciences research (Institut za primijenjena društvena istraživanja) within the university.[1] In 1993, it became a public institution, separated from the university.[1] On February 18, 1997, it was renamed by the decision of the board of directors into today's name.[1]

Structure

Institute consists of 18 research centers located in Zagreb, Osijek, Pula, Split, Vukovar, Gospić, Dubrovnik, Varaždin and Vis.[2] Institute has its own library in Zagreb.[3]

Publishing

Institute publishes three scientific journals: Društvena istraživanja,[4] Pilar[5] and Histria antiqua.[6]
