Hosken Consolidated Investments (officially Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited, and abbreviated to HCI) is a South African investment holding company, based in Cape Town.[3][2]

Founded in 1973, the company is a Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) entity,[6] and has holdings in various industries, including television, real estate, and hospitality.[2]

Operations

HCI has operations across South Africa, as well as in Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, India, South Korea, the UAE, Indonesia, China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Mexico, the United States, and Canada.[7]

The company has investments across industries including television, real estate, gambling, transport, hospitality, golf, mining, and oil.[7]

HCI is listed on the South African JSE Limited stock exchange.[1]

Ownership

Shareholders with a greater than 5% ownership of HCI are the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) with 23.3%, Chearsley Investments with 7.6%, Squirewood Investments 64 with 5.3%, Zarclear (RF) with 5.6%, and Rivetprops 47 with 5%. Together, these 5 corporations comprise around half of the shares of HCI.[5]

Among the largest mutual fund investors in HCI are Coronation, Ninety One, PSG, M&G, and Sanlam. The institutions with the largest percentage share of ownership of HCI are Regarding Capital Management, PSG, Abax Investments, and M&G.[3]

The majority of shares in HCI are owned by individual shareholders, followed by retirement funds, trusts, "other corporations", and banks. Roughly a third of HCI is owned by individual investors, with another roughly one third owned by private companies.[5]
