History of online ticket sales of Ukrzaliznytsia

On December 26, 2008, Ukraine witnessed its first-ever online transaction for reserving a railway ticket, which was later purchased at Ukrzaliznytsia ticket offices. This operation was performed by Vladimir Turenitsa, the founder of LLC "Electronic Card Payments" (E-Cpayment), a company providing online card payment processing services.

The system was implemented through the web interface — e‑kvytok.ua — in cooperation with the official booking system "Express-2". The acquiring bank was Rodovid Bank. Processing was carried out by the ClearPark system from the Belgian company Clear2Pay (now part of FIS, USA).

The very first online payment was made by Vladimir Turenitsa around 6:00 PM Kyiv time.

This fact was confirmed by an official letter from JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" in 2023, marking the 15th anniversary of the event.

Significance

This became an important milestone in the digital transformation of Ukraine's transport sector. Afterwards, Ukrzaliznytsia introduced electronic tickets with cashless boarding and self-print options.
