Hidayat Ullah Khan (Urdu: ہدایت اللہ خان; 1 January 1956–3 July 2024)[1] was a Pakistani politician who served as a member of the Senate of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since March 2021, and belonged to the Awami National Party. He also served as a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development from 2008 to 2013.

Life and career

Hidayat Ullah Khan was born on 1 January 1956, in Nawagai, Bajaur District, as the son of Haji Bismillah Khan[2] and the younger brother of Shaukat Ullah Khan.[3] He served as a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development from 2008 to 2013,[4] and was a member of the Senate of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since March 2021.[5] He was affiliated with the Awami National Party.[6] Khan was elected twice as an independent senator from the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and was a member of the National Counter Terrorism Authority and Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation. He joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2018, which local party activists disapproved of.[3]

Death

On 3 July 2024, Khan, along with Samiur Rehman, Malik Irfan, Naziruddin and Yar Muhammad, was killed in Mamund Tehsil by a remote-controlled[2] improvised explosive device.[3][1] Bajaur District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad said that Khan was going to a by-election campaign in Damadola when he was attacked.[7] The bodies of Khan and his four were examined in the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, Bajaur District.[3] Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.[1][7]
