Henry Searle (né Trump;[2] born 29 March 2006) is a British tennis player. He has a career high singles ranking of No. 389, achieved on 10 February 2025. [3] He is the 2023 Wimbledon boys' singles champion.[4]
Career
2022-2023: Junior British National and Wimbledon champion
In 2022 he won the Under 16 & Junior British National Championship.[5]
Searle reached the quarterfinals at the 2023 French Open boys singles before losing to eventual champion Dino Prižmić.[6][7]
In July 2023, he defeated the top seed Juan Carlos Prado Ángelo in Boys' singles at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.[8] He followed that up with wins over Manas Dhamne, Arthur Géa and João Fonseca, without dropping a set.[9][10][11] He defeated American junior Grand Slam winner Cooper Williams in the semifinals, again winning in straight sets.[12] During the semifinal he was recorded as serving a first serve at 129 mph. In the final he faced Yaroslav Demin again winning in straight sets, becoming the first British junior to win the boys' title at Wimbledon since Stanley Matthews, in 1962.[13][14] In the final he had a serve registered at 134 mph.[15]
2024-2025: ATP and Major debuts, First Challenger final
In April, Searle defeated top seed JJ Wolf at the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, his third victory in a Challenger level event,[16] before losing his next match to Joel Schwaerzler.[17]
He made his ATP debut at the Eastbourne International as a lucky loser but lost to Lorenzo Sonego.[18] For his Grand Slam debut, Searle received a wildcard for Wimbledon,[19] losing in the first round to Marcos Giron.[20]
Searle reached his first ATP Challenger final in Nottingham in January, losing to Viktor Durasovic in three sets.[21][22]
He was awarded a wildcard into the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, where he was defeated in the first round of the singles by American Ethan Quinn.[23] In the men's doubles, alongside Dan Evans, he lost in the first round to defending champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara.[24]
Coaches
Searle's coach is Morgan Phillips, the head coach at the Lawn Tennis Association's national academy in Loughborough. He said that the Wimbledon boy's victory, and the associated rankings increase, could "fast-track" him into senior tournaments.[25]
Personal life
He is the son of cricketer Harvey Trump, from Wolverhampton,[26] and the grandson of Gerald Trump.
As a keen footballer, he is a fan of his local Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers.[27]
He attends Loughborough Amherst School which partners with Loughborough University to support the National Tennis Academy.[28]
