Haunted House is a single-player, text-based adventure video game published by Creative Computing Software. It was published in 1979 for the Apple II and the following year for Atari 8-bit computer systems. Players begin in a mansion at 6:00 p.m. and must escape by midnight or be trapped forever. Each player turn encompasses one minute of game time.

Haunted House is a text-based single-player video game. Players begins in a mansion at 6:00 p.m. and must escape by midnight or be forever trapped.[1] The mansion comprises 28 rooms, seven in each of its four floors.[1] Player turns encompass one minute each of game time.[1] According to VideoGameGeek, "During your search, you may find skeleton keys to open locked doors, good luck charms, friendly ghosts, evil spirits, and skeletons. The sound effects (creaking doors and stairs) add to the eeriness."[2]
Development
According to the manual, the game is a "nightmare simulation program".[1] Randall S. Matthews developed the game.[3] Creative Computing Software published the game for the Apple II and Atari 8-bit systems.[1]
Release
The game was initially launched on the Apple II system in 1979, followed the next year for Apple 8-bit systems.[1]
