Garza is a Galician and Basque surname and the Spanish word for the heron. Garza has also become a part of many placenames.
The Garza Family originated from Galicia in The Kingdom of Spain in Europe, and first arrived in New Spain around 1514 (Particularly in modern day Mexico, then colonized Texas) with Juan de la garza, and Don Blas Maria Garza, both Spaniards.
