Garita Kilómetro 26
Garita Kilómetro 26 (Spanish for Kilometer 26 checkpoint) was a federal inspection checkpoint operated by the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit through its Mexican Customs Bureau. The name derived from its location, which was exactly 26 kilometers south of the Mexico–United States border, from the Gateway to the Americas International Bridge following the main road until it becomes Federal Highway 85. It was more commonly known as Kilómetro Veintiséis (Kilometer 26) or just el Veintiséis (the 26). It represented one of the many checkpoints, or garitas, located along the major transportation corridors in border regions. More than 4,000 trucks passed through the inspection station each day. The inspection facility was in the process of renovation since 2005.
Garita Kilómetro 26 was closed on September 14, 2014, due to a Mexican law change.
