Galt is an unincorporated community and Census-designated place in Whiteside County, Illinois, United States. Galt is 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Sterling and has a post office with ZIP code 61037.[3]

History

The community was named for John Galt, an early landowner.[4]

Town, depot and post office was founded in 1857 when the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad arrived. The Galena and Chicago Union Railroad later became the Chicago and North Western Railroad.[5]
