Gülveren (Kurdish: Behwar; Syriac: Baḥwar)[2][a] is a neighbourhood in the municipality and district of Midyat, Mardin Province in Turkey.[4] The village is populated by Kurds of the Dermemikan tribe and had a population of 668 in 2021.[1][5] It is located in the historic region of Tur Abdin.[6]
History
Baḥwar (today called Gülveren) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Christians.[7] In the Syriac Orthodox patriarchal register of dues of 1870, it was recorded that the village had 4 households, who did not pay any dues, and did not have a church or a priest.[6] In 1914, there were 100 Syriacs in the village, according to the list presented to the Paris Peace Conference by the Assyro-Chaldean delegation.[8]
