Eyjólfur Guðmundsson
Eyjólfur Guðmundsson is an Icelandic economist and academic administrator. He served as the rector of the University of Akureyri from 2014 to 2024.[1]
Education and career
After successfully graduating from the Commercial College of Iceland (officially Verzlunarskóli Íslands, colloquially referred to as Verzló) in 1988, Guðmundsson continued his studies at the University of Iceland, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1992. Afterwards, he studied at the University of Rhode Island in the United States, where he received his Ph.D. in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics in 2002.[2][3][4]
Later on, he moved back to Iceland, where he served at the University of Akureyri as an assistant professor from January 2000 to August 2004, associate professor from September 2004 to May 2007, a dean at the Faculty of Business from January 2005 to June 2007, and the rector of the university from July 2014 to July 2024.[5][6][7]
In June 2014, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Board at the University of Greenland.[8]
In August 2007, Icelandic video game developer CCP Games hired him to manage the virtual economy of their game, EVE Online.[9][10] He served as the company's lead economist from August 2007 to July 2014, its director of research and statistics from June 2008 to March 2014, and the head of analytics from March to July 2014.[11]
