Emelia Arthur is a Ghanaian politician and a former deputy Western Regional Minister of Ghana.[1] She was appointed by President John Evan Atta Mills and served till January 2013. In December 2024 she won the parliamentary election as the National Democratic Congress (Ghana) candidate in the Shama constituency of the Western Region of Ghana, with 57% of the votes cast.[2]

Arthur has expressed concern over the decline of Ghana’s marine and inland fisheries resources, emphasizing the need for urgent action to support aquaculture as a sustainable alternative.[3]

She has also pledged to address the European Union’s concerns over illegal fishing activities, which have led to Ghana receiving a “Yellow Card” warning[3]

Political career

Arthur was appointed Ghana's Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture in January 2025, by President John Dramani Mahama.[4]
