Elvis is a double-record greatest-hits album by American rock and roll singer Elvis Presley. Issued by RCA Special Products and (for a month) Brookville Records in August 1973, it compiled many of his best-selling singles released from 1956 to 1962. It is the first mail-order album released during his lifetime and his most popular. Despite never making the charts, it was certified 5× platinum on December 1, 2010, by the Recording Industry Association of America[1] and is tied for the honor of Presley's most successful non-holiday album released in the '70s.
Unlike the Elvis '50s albums released during the '70s, the pre-'60s songs on this album were in their original mono and not stereo reprocessed. The cover photo was taken from the worldwide event Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite that was seen earlier in the year. 8-track and cassette versions were also available for purchase along with the vinyl records.
Reissues
After Presley's untimely death in 1977, a commemorative version was quickly released and was available for a few years. Some included a photo album and a certificate of authenticity.
