Disappearance of Michael Gaine

Michael Gaine is an Irish farmer who disappeared near his home in Kenmare on the morning of 20 March 2025.[1]

Investigation

Gaine had a leg injury, so he would not have been able to walk very far.[1] Because of this fact, slurry tanks were searched in the week of his disappearance.[1]

In early April, members of the Irish Army came to Kenmare to search for Gaine.[2][3] On the morning of 11 April, a little over three weeks after Gaine disappeared, Garda Superintendent David Callaghan told a press briefing that the situation is "exceptional" and "unique," saying that they are "no nearer to finding him than we were three weeks ago".[4] On 14 April, politician Jim O'Callaghan (brother of journalist Miriam) said there was no evidence of foul play.[5]

Virgin Media One produced a documentary on the case, broadcasting it on the evening of 17 April.[6]

At the 2025 Rally of the Lakes, competitors used stickers reading "Mike Gaine – Help bring him back – One of our own – Rally of the Lakes 2025".[7]
