The Department of Financial Services (DFS) is an Indian governmental department under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, responsible for overseeing the financial sector.[1] It formulates policies and administers laws for banking, insurance, and pension sectors.[2]

History

The DFS was established to foster the growth of India’s financial system. Initially part of the Ministry of Finance, it became a separate department in 2007 to manage the growing complexity of the Indian financial system.[3]
