The Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 (1995 No. 755 (N.I. 2)) is an order in Council for Northern Ireland which mirrored the Children Act 1989, and was the first major change in child care legislation for "30 years".[1][2]

Provisions

The act required the recording of the number of children in care.[3]

The act does not allow a person to allow a person to allow a person to acquire parental rights through perjury in the issuing of a birth certificate.[4]

The act does not necessarily grant a grandparent access rights to their grandchildren.[5] This can however be acquired through a contact order, which.[5]

Standards for preparations for children leaving care were strengthened by the Children (Leaving Care) Act (Northern Ireland) 2002.[6]

The Children (Emergency Protection Orders) Act (Northern Ireland) 2007 allows for courts to grant an Emergency Protection Order if certain conditions are met.[7][8]
