Cheryl Deserée (born March 4) is an American singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee. She is the first known singer of Samoan heritage to release an original, traditional country & western swing album.
Early life
Cheryl Deserée was born in Long Beach, CA and is of Samoan, Tongan, English, and Scottish descent.[1][2] She was raised in the Inland Empire before moving to Baltimore in 1999. She spent 15 years working as an award-winning wedding and event DJ/coordinator, performing regularly for crowds of several hundred revelers from Virginia to New York.
Career
Cheryl Deserée arrived in Nashville in 2014 and debuted professionally by singing backing vocals with legendary band, The Mavericks, on Big Machine's Nashville Outlaws Tribute to Motley Crue with a Latin-infused version of "Dr. Feelgood". Cheryl went on to co-produce (with CGP Richard Smith) her debut, self-titled, critically acclaimed album "Cheryl Deserée" in September of 2016. Her first album was named one of Saving County Music's "Best of 2017" and garnered several nominations from the Ameripolitan Music Awards & the Academy of Western Artists'. In 2017, Cheryl Deserée won the Academy of Western Artists' Female of the Year award, for which she has been nominated several times since. In 2018, Cheryl Deserée teamed up with several icons of country music for her sophomore record, "Dreamy". Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel joins Cheryl on the rollicking Louis & Keely jump blues classic "Oooh-dah-dilly-dah". Ranger Doug appears with a co-writing credit on "Home to Stay" where the Riders in the Sky beckon you out west. And Dale Watson's whiskey soaked telecaster cuts thru the hangover of "Another Empty Bottle". Cheryl Deserée has released several music videos available on her YouTube and personal website.
Deserée released her self-titled debut album Cheryl Deserée on February 9, 2016. The album includes all original material.[3] On December 1, 2017, she released a Christmas single entitled Warm in December.[4][5] Deserée's second album Dreamy was released on September 7, 2018.[6]
