Chalta Musafir[1] is an Urdu novel by Pakistani novelist and short story writer Altaf Fatima. First published in 1981, the novel explains the events of 1940s to 1970s, from the partition of the Indian subcontinent to the independence of Bangladesh.[2][3][4][5]
Critical reception
In his review for The Wire, Moazzam Sheikh argues that Fatima missed an opportunity to educate readers about the complexities of the conflict and instead relied on a singular narrative that portrays Urdu-speaking Muslims as victims. He suggests that Fatima could have explored the Bengali language movement, the role of the Muslim League, and the Pakistani army's actions in East Pakistan.[6]
