Carlos Florentino (born 1 May 1968), is a Portuguese mathematician who works in Geometry, Topology and Mathematical Physics. He did his undergraduate work in Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico, a Master at Stanford University, and his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Stony Brook University, USA, under the supervision of Leon Takhtajan. He is now a full professor at the University of Lisbon and current coordinator of the Center for Mathematical Studies.[1]

One of his important results is the deformation retraction of the so-called -character varieties of some finitely presented groups (such as free groups and free abelian groups) into the space of equivalence classes of its -representations, for a reductive group and its maximal compact subgroup .
