Bumiputera

Bumiputera or Bumiputra, is a Malay word used as an ethnonym designating certain indigenous peoples of the Malay Peninsula and Malay Archipelago. Etymologically, this term derives from the Sanskrit word भूमिपुत्र (IAST:bhū́miputra) – a compound noun literally meaning "son of the soil" or "son of the earth" (भूमि bhūmi = soil/earth; पुत्र putra = son of).
