Bucze [ˈbut͡ʂɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Lubrza, within Świebodzin County, Lubusz Voivodeship, in western Poland.[1] It lies approximately 6 km (4 mi) west of Lubrza, 13 km (8 mi) west of Świebodzin, 40 km (25 mi) north of Zielona Góra, and 50 km (31 mi) south of Gorzów Wielkopolski.
History
During World War II, Nazi Germany operated a forced labour camp for Jewish men in the village.[2] During the final stages of the war, on 18 March 1945, German anti-aircraft artillery shot down an American bomber, killing four men, Richard C. Berryman, Norman B. Dahlin, Leslie C. Chavet, Michael J. Jr. Riley.[3] There is a memorial at the site.
