Etymology
The name Bora comes from the Turkish word bora, which derives from the Proto-Turkic *bora-, meaning "storm".[3][4] It is of the same root with the Turkish burağan, meaning "whirlwind" or "tornado", and is cognate with Bashkir буран (buran), Crimean Tatar boran, Kazakh боран (boran) and Turkmen boran.[5][6] In addition, it is possible that it is related to the Mongolian бороо, signifying "rain".[7]
It is not related to the Ancient Greek Βορέας, which is equally a Greek mythological figure named Boreas, the God of the north wind, storms, and winter.[8] The Turkish variant of this Greek word is Poyraz.
