The Battle of Puri was a battle fought between Crown prince Satyashraya of the Western Chalukyas and King Aparajita of the Shilaharas. It resulted in a Victory for Satyashraya, who forced the Shilaharas to accept Western Chalukya suzerinty.

Background

The Shilaharas under the able rule of Aparajita had expanded greatly after breaking away from the Rashtrakutas and conquering several regions.[1] This had caught the attension of the Western Chalukya emperor Tailapa II, who demanded that Aparajita accept his suzerinty, but was refused. Hence, he sent his son and crown prince Satyashraya to subjugate the Shilahara ruler.

Battle

Satyashraya defeated Aparajita, reaching as far as the city of Puri.[1] There, Aparajita accepted Western Chalukya Suzerinty.[2]

Aftermath

After this, Aparajita took the title of Maha-Mandaleshwara and served the Western Chalukya emperor.
