Battle of Diyarbakır in 1511 was a conflict between the Mamluks and the Safavids in the Diyarbakır beylerbeylik.

Battle

In April 1511, a border clash occurred between the Mamluks and Safavids. Sadan Habashi violated the border for reconnaissance purposes and entered the territory of the Diyarbakir Beylerbeylik. At that time, the Qizilbash commander Murad Beg Ustajlu, nicknamed Deli Durag, who was hunting in the meadow, learned about this and attacked Sadan Habashi's army. At the very beginning of the battle, Sadan Habashi was killed by Murad Beg Ustajlu, and at the end of the battle, 180 Mamluk soldiers were killed, 20 were taken prisoner, and the rest fled. Most of the prisoners went over to the Safavid side. However, there were 3 Habashis who wanted to return to their country. They were released from captivity by order of Shah Ismail immediately sent an envoy to the Egyptian sultan of Qansu Qawri, Hamza Khalifa. Hearing that the Safavids had won the battle, Qansu Qawri immediately sent envoys to Shah Ismail . According to Abdi Beg, in the winter of 1511, an envoy from Qansu Qawri came to the city of Qom, appeared before Shah Ismail, and congratulated him on behalf of Qansu Qawri on the conquest of Khorasan.[1]
