Bangladeshi Football Ultras is a football supporters' group in Bangladesh that supports the Bangladesh national football teams, including the men's, women's, and youth teams.[1][2] The group is known for its organized support and passionate presence in stadiums during both home and away matches.

History

The idea of Bangladesh Football Ultras was conceived on 17 May 2019, and the group officially began its activities on 27 May 2019.[1][3][4] It was formed by a group of students and young football supporters who aimed to enhance the atmosphere in stadiums and revive the country's football fan culture.[1][5]

Their first significant engagement came during the Bangladesh–Nepal friendly matches held after the COVID-19 lockdowns. Members brought drums, banners, and other materials to the stadium using personal funds and donations from within the group, as they did not receive institutional financial support.[1]

The group became popular during the "Salauddin Hatao" movement.[6][7][8][9]

Activities

The group is known for coordinated chants, drums, flags, banners, and tifos during matches involving the Bangladesh national team. Members typically position themselves in the northern gallery of Kings Arena, although they attend matches across different venues where the national teams play.[10][3]

Bangladesh Football Ultras remained active during the World Cup qualifying match between Bangladesh and Palestine, which was held during Ramadan.[11] Despite fasting, members maintained support throughout the match.[6] They also supported the national women's team during the 2024 SAFF Women's Championship Final against Nepal, which Bangladesh won.[12]

They also demonstrated a significant involvement during the July Revolution (Bangladesh).[17]

Membership

As of 2024, Bangladesh Football Ultras reportedly has over 5,000 general members, with more than 1,000 officially registered.[1][18]

Reception and Recognition

The group has received positive recognition from national team players and coaching staff, including head coach Javier Cabrera. The Bangladesh Football Federation has acknowledged the group’s contributions while also advising adherence to stadium safety protocols.[4]
