Automecanica SA is an industrial company focusing on the automotive industry headquartered in Mediaș and managing the Automecanica Industrial Park. The company was initially founded in 1941 as an aircraft maintenance and components producer. It was privatized in 1997 and developed into the current industrial park in 2007 while splitting from its production branch which formed the Automecanica Mediaș SRL company[2] (since 2024, this company is operating as Rheinmetall Automecanica).[3]

History

After World War II, in 1957, the factory was converted to the Central Auto and Tractor Repair Workshops. It received the name Automecanica in 1962 while its trademark was also registered in Geneva. During this time, the factory also began specializing in automotive products.[5]

Since then, the company developed its industrial park into a hub for a wide range of products.[2]
