Atbağı (Kurdish: Bazbutê;[2] Syriac: Bāzbūt)[3][a] is a village in the Beşiri District of Batman Province in Turkey.[5] The village is populated by Kurds of the Reman tribe and had a population of 146 in 2021.[1][2]

History

Bāzbūt (today called Atbağı) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Christians and Kurdish-speaking Armenians.[6] In the Syriac Orthodox patriarchal register of dues of 1870, it was recorded that the village had 8 households, who paid 3 dues, and did not have a church or a priest.[3] There were 6 Armenian hearths in 1880.[7] It was located in the district of Beşiri.[8] The Armenians were attacked by the Belek, Bekran, Şegro, and other Kurdish tribes in May 1915 amidst the Armenian genocide.[9]
