Aryaman Birla (born 9 July 1997) is an Indian businessman and former cricketer.[1] He is a founder of Aditya Birla Ventures and Aditya Birla New Age hospitality.[2] In 2023, he was appointed as one of the directors of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, Hindalco Industries and Grasim Industries.[3][4]
Early life and education
He was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, he is the son of Kumar Mangalam Birla, an Indian Industrialist and Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, and Neerja Birla. He has two sisters, Ananya Birla and Advaitesha Birla.[5]
He completed his schooling in Mumbai. He pursued a degree in commerce through distance learning from the University of Mumbai. He completed his MBA program at Harvard Business School.[6][7][8]
Career
He made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on 25 November 2017.[9] In January 2018, he was bought by the Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 IPL auction.[10] In November 2018, he scored his maiden century in first-class cricket.[11] In 2019, he took a sabbatical from cricket owing to mental health problems.[12] He was released by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 IPL auction.[13]
Business Career
He started his business in the food and beverage sector. Aditya Birla Ventures, the Group's venture capital division headed by him, has invested in five fast-growing startups. He holds director positions in Grasim Industries, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., Aditya Birla Management Corporation (P) Ltd., and the Aditya Birla Group. Additionally, he is a member of the Atlas SkillTech University Advisory Board.[14][15]
He established Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, a company involved in operating and managing food and beverage ventures. Under his direction, ABNAH acquired KA Hospitality, which includes the restaurant brands Hakkasan, Yauatcha, Nara Thai, and CinCin. The company also operates Jolie's, a private members club, and has opened restaurants such as Ode, in collaboration with chef Rahul Akerkar, and Waarsa, which serves Awadhi cuisine.[16][17]
