Annie Barnett (née Beeching; 12 December 1861 – 1941), who also used the name, Mrs. P. A. Barnett, was an English writer, editor, and suffragette.

Biography

Early life and education

Annie Beeching was born in Paddington, London, on 12 December 1861.[1] Her father worked as a bookseller and her brother was author Henry Beeching, dean of Norwich. She was educated at North London Collegiate school and later studied at London University.[2]

Career

Barnett edited a number of books of prose and verse, including works for children.[3] She also co-authored an epistolary novel, Drifting Thistledown.[4] The book was featured in The New York Times.[5]

Personal life and death

She married Percy Arthur Barnett (1858–1941) an educationalist and school inspector. They had a son, Denis, who died in the First World War,[6] and a daughter, Charis, who later became a writer and an activist for birth control. Barnett, who was a supporter of women's suffrage took her daughter to hear suffragette speakers in Hyde Park on multiple occasions.[2]

Barnett died in London in the second quarter of 1941, aged 79.[7]
