American Gladiators is an upcoming American sports entertainment show based on the original American Gladiators series, and its successful British reboot on BBC network. It is set to be aired on Amazon's Prime Video[1] in over 240 countries and territories across the world, and is set to be hosted by WWE's wrestler Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin.[2][3][4]

Signs of an possible American reboot of the iconic franchise were seen after the hit success of the BBC's newly rebooted series of their Gladiators,[5] which has so far run for two series, and quickly sold out its first-ever live tour across the UK.[4]

The part of the filming is set to occur during June–July of 2025 outside Paris, France at the Cergy Aren'Ice multi-purpose arena. It is the first time American Gladiators is being filmed entirely outside its national borders.[6] It will include "global" elite athletes, such as CrossFitters and bodybuilders as the cast of the new Gladiators.[4]

Background

In April 2024, it was reported the creator of the original American Gladiators brand, John Ferraro, had signed Range Sports as a representative to develop new "TV, film, attractions, merchandise and live events" within the American Gladiators franchise.[5] This decicion was accelerated by the hit success of the British Gladiators on BBC One network, which during its first season, reached nearly 10 million viewers throughout the whole series, and which was quickly renewed for its second and third series.[1]

In June 2024, it was officially reported that the reboot had been ordered by Amazon Prime Video, produced by MGM Television, and set to be aired in over 200 different countries across the world. In May 2025, it was officially revealed that WWE "superstar" and presenter The Miz will be hosting the new reboot, which is set to be filmed starting from June 2025 near Paris, France, in front of the audience of approximately 3,000.[6]

In June 12, 2025 it was revealed The Miz is being joined by his sideline reporter Rocsi Diaz and play-by-play commentator Chris Rose. Simultaneously the full roster of 16 Gladiators were officially revealed.[7][8]

Format

The format of the program follows the premise of the previous iterations of American Gladiators, where ordinary members of the public, i.e. Contenders battle against elite athletes, Gladiators in a set of physically demanding events requiring strength, stamina and speed. The Contenders gain points in the events that transfer to an advantage for the final The Eliminator round at the end of each episode.

Gladiators

The cast of Gladiators include professional wrestlers, bodybuilders, CrossFit athletes, D1 athletes and globally recognized fitness trainers.

On June 11, 2025, the first two male Gladiators of the lineup were revealed as former WWE wrestler Eric Bugenhagen, and former TNA wrestler and current OVW standout Jessie Godderz.[9] On June 12, the rest of the total 16-strong roster were first revealed by Prime Video and The Hollywood Reporter.[7]
