Almajiri (film)
Almajiri is a 2022 Nigerian drama thriller written by Smart Conrad, directed by Toka McBaror and produced by Darlington Abuda.[1] It is a film based on true events and tells the story of the Almajiri system which ia widely practiced in Northern Nigeria. Almajiri is an Hausa word, derived from the Arabic word, “al-Muhājir,” which refers to a person who migrates from his home in search of Islamic knowledge.[2]
Plot
The plot highlights the story of two young children Nafisat and Salihu, separated from their parents from childhood by the cruel business of Alhaji Makarfi and made to become victim of trafficking and other forms of child slavery. The villagers believe and trust Alhaji Makarfi, hoping that their children will be enlisted in his scholarship program.
