She won a silver medal in the relay for swimming in the preliminary heat, as the U.S. team finished second to Australia in the final. In her 200m butterfly race, she advanced through the preliminaries and semi-finals and finished sixth in the championship final. In the final race of the meet, the 4x100 medley relay, Shackell was tabbed to swim when the butterfly leg in the morning heats as the top two finishers in the women's 100 m butterfly race, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske, swam the butterfly and freestyle legs in the final. The gold medal performance by the U.S. women's team in the final clinched a gold medal for Shackell for her preliminary leg.
