King África (born June 7, 1962) is an Argentine dance music project created by DJ Martín Laacré in the early 1990s. The project is best known for its 2000 remake of the 1993 single "Salta", retitled "Salta 2000", which featured Mr. Pringles, as well as a cover of "La Bomba", originally recorded by the Bolivian group Azul Azul.[1]
History
Argentine vocalist Martín Laacré[2] founded King África, making his first appearance in August 1992 on the compilation DJ Dero – Volume 1 with the track "EOE."[3] This was followed by the 1993 single "Póntelo Pónselo."[4] King África's debut album, El Africano, was released the same year and achieved platinum status in both Argentina and Chile.
The second album, Al Palo, was released in 1994. In 1995, King África performed at the International Song Festival of Viña del Mar in Chile.[5]
In 1997, Laacré left the project due to artistic and financial disagreements.[6] He later returned to the music scene under the name King Africa Music.[7]
