A. Z. M. Shamsul Alam

A. Z. M. Shamsul Alam is a retired civil servant, Islamic banker, and the former rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre.[1][2] He is a former Director General of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh.[3] He is the founding chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank.[4] He is an advisor to the board of directors of the Islami Commercial Insurance PLC.[5]

Early life

Alam was born in Comilla.[2]

Career

Alam was the rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre from 11 January 1990 to 31 July 1990.[6] He was an Executive Director of Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority.[7] He retired from the civil service as a secretary.[2] In 1995, he founded Al-Arafah Islami Bank and became its first chairman.[8][9][10]

During the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-Bangladesh Jamaat e Islami rule, Alam served as the Director General of the Islamic Foundation.[11] He was appointed director general in October 2003 replacing Syed Ashraf Ali.[12] He sought funding from the Saudi Arabian embassy for the renovation of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.[12]

Alam is an independent director of Islami Commercial Insurance PLC.[2] He is associated with the Tamaddun Majlish.[13]
