2025 Kawempe North by-election

The 2025 Kawempe North by-election was held on 13 March 2025, following the death of MP Muhammad Ssegirinya.[1] His family members supported different candidates.[2]

Conduct

Nomination of candidates were open between 26 and 27 February 2025.[3][4] Campaigning ended on 11 March.[5][6]

Candidates

There were 10 candidates in the by-election.[7]

Results

Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, was declared the winner.[8]

Reaction

The National Resistance Movement announced a legal challenge to the vote.[9]
