Rankings from AP poll

The 2025–26 Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team will represent Georgetown University in the 2025–26 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hoyas, led by third-year head coach Ed Cooley, are members of the Big East Conference. The Hoyas will play their home games in Washington, D.C., at Capital One Arena and McDonough Gymnasium.

Previous season

After three historically bad seasons in a row, the Hoyas improved during the 2024–25 season, finishing with an overall record of 18–15, their first winning record since the 2018–19 season. In Big East Conference play they finished in seventh place with a record of 8–12, which was both their highest finish in the standings since 2018–19 and their best conference record since the 2020–21 season. They lost to DePaul in the first round of the Big East tournament, but nonetheless made their first postseason tournament appearance since the 2020–21 season. The Hoyas were contractually obliged to turn down an invitation to the 2025 National Invitation Tournament because of a Big East commitment to send teams to a new postseason tournament, the College Basketball Crown, but they accepted a bid to the 2025 College Basketball Crown. They advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Nebraska, bringing their season to an end.

Season recap

Exhibitions

Georgetown has scheduled two exhibition games in October, visiting George Washington and Kentucky.[1][2]

Non-conference season

The Hoyas will play an 11-game non-conference schedule. They will visit Maryland and North Carolina to play the first game of a four-year home-and-home series against the Terrapins and the first game of a two-year home-and-home series against the Tar Heels. In late November they will participate along with BYU, Dayton, and Miami in the Magic Bracket of the ESPN Events Invitational. They also will host Clemson for the first time in school history, in the first year of a home-and-home series with the Tigers.[3] However, they will not play their former Big East rival Syracuse,[2][4] the first season that the two teams have not met since 2014–2015.

Conference season

The Hoyas will play a 20-game conference schedule, meeting each other Big East team twice in a home-and-home series.
