Club Universitario de Deportes' 1971 season was the club's 47th year of existence,[2] the 104th year in professional football and the 59th in the top level of professional football in Peru.

The 1971 Copa Libertadores was the 12th edition of the tournament with Universitario being part of Group 1, moving on to the second phase before being eliminated from the tournament.[5]
