On July 31, 1944, a Douglas C-47 operated by the South African Air Force en route from Riyan International Airport to Salalah International Airport registered as KG960, crashed while landing at Salalah International Airport due to pilot error and severe weather. The crash made one of the deadliest plane crashes of Oman's soil, Also the crash made one of the deadliest plane crashes involved in a Douglas C-47 Skytrain.[1][2][3][4]

Aircraft

The aircraft involved was a 3-year old Douglas C-47 Skytrain with Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines, registered as KG960 by the South African Air Force.[5][6]

Accident

While landing at Salalah International Airport, the Douglas C-47 Skytrain experienced severe weather including rain while the plane struck a mountain and crashed into nearby Salalah leaving 0 survivors and 32 dead.[7]
